Reaction of all parties when the US passed a bill with no aid to Ukraine

(Dan Tri) – US President Joe Biden as well as European Union (EU) officials spoke of reassurance after Washington passed a budget bill with no additional aid for Ukraine to prevent a government shutdown.

`I want to confirm to our allies, to the American people and the Ukrainian people that you can count on our support. We are not going anywhere,` US President Joe Biden said at the meeting.

The White House owner also emphasized that his message about future aid to Ukraine is: `We will continue to do that.`

The above commitment was made not long after the US Congress passed a temporary budget bill within 45 days, avoiding a federal government shutdown.

Specifically, the bill includes $16 billion to support natural disaster victims, but does not include aid to Ukraine, cuts or budget for changes in border policy.

Previously, Mr. Biden offered an additional $24 billion in aid to Ukraine.

The Democratic leader in the House of Representatives urged House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to hold a vote on a separate aid package for Kiev.

On the European side, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said on October 1 during his visit to Kiev that Ukraine needs more military aid and he pledged the EU’s continued support.

`Ukraine needs more capabilities and faster. We are preparing long-term security commitments for Ukraine,` Mr. Borrell said, adding that he discussed this issue in a meeting with the Minister

He emphasized: `We are not waiting for the US decision to increase aid to Ukraine.`

This week, the European Defense Agency said that seven EU countries had ordered ammunition under a procurement plan to deliver urgently needed artillery shells to Ukraine and replenish the West’s depleted stockpiles.

On Ukraine’s side, this country’s officials also affirmed that the bill’s passage in the US does not mean a change in the US stance on supporting Ukraine.
