`We no longer give weapons to Ukraine because we have to equip our army with more modern weapons,` Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in response to a question about Warsaw’s continued support.

The Polish leader further explained: `If you don’t want to be on the defensive, you must have something to defend yourself. This is our principle, so we have increased the purchase of weapons.`

Mr. Morawiecki also mentioned his recent visit to factories producing Polish weapons such as Krab howitzers and Rosomak armored personnel carriers.

`Here we are mainly focused on rapidly modernizing and arming the Polish army so that it becomes one of the strongest armies in Europe,` he said.

On the other hand, he emphasized that Poland’s decision not to provide weapons to Ukraine will not affect Ukraine’s security.

Poland is one of the Western countries that has provided significant support to Ukraine since Russia launched a special military campaign in the country.

Relations between Poland and Ukraine have become tense recently due to the grain issue.

The European Commission on September 15 announced it would not extend temporary restrictions on Ukraine’s grain exports to five neighboring countries, all members of the EU.

In response, Ukraine filed a lawsuit against these three countries at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Explaining the decision to extend the ban, Prime Minister Morawiecki said the most important thing for the Polish government is the benefits of farmers and the benefits of the Polish agricultural industry.

He also warned that more products from Ukraine will be added to the list of goods banned from import in Poland if the Ukrainian side takes further steps to increase tensions.

On September 20, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called on Poland to put emotions aside to resolve the grain issue.

`The Ukrainian side has offered Poland a constructive solution to the grain issue. We hope our proposals will become the basis for shifting the dialogue to a constructive process.`
